There’s a new filler in town and it’s here to stay. Belotero is the first ever monophasic hyaluronic acid dermal filler with patented CPM technology. Belotero is approved for the treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. And unlike other fillers, Belotero has also been successfully used on fine lines, superficial wrinkles and folds closer to the surface of the skin.
Similar to other fillers, Belotero increases volume, and fills in fine lines and wrinkles using Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is produced naturally by the body throughout life, and can be found in the connective tissues. Considered to be ‘nature’s moisturizer’ Hyaluronic acid serves many beneficial purposes. The acid binds to water and lubricates the moveable parts of the body. It also helps to maintain normal joint cushioning, hydrates the connective tissue of the scalp which promotes healthy, nourished hair, provides protection to the eye and keeps gums healthy. For cosmetic purposes Hyaluronic acid is the substance that keeps skin looking young, firm and smooth by providing continuous moisture and supporting the body’s levels of collagen. As we age our body’s ability to produce Hyaluronic acid decreases. Skin becomes drier, and collagen, which depends on Hyaluronic acid to hold moisture and maintain its elasticity, depletes as it dries up. The result is wrinkles.
One of the biggest benefits may be the fact that the product can be injected so close to the surface of the skin. Until now, areas around the eyes, and fine lines around the lips could not be smoothed with an injectable filler, and this left patients without a viable solution for solving wrinkles in these delicate areas. Belotero is a thinner and lighter filler, which works well in superficial areas, and its introduction to America has caused great excitement among those in the cosmetic injectable community.
Another benefit may be a more natural looking appearance. When injected, Belotero completely fills the dermal area, resulting in a natural looking effect and a smooth transition between the treated area and the untreated area. Other fillers utilize a particulate gel to deliver the product, which can result in an enlarged and lifted dermal area. Belotero’s CPM technology utilizes dynamic double crossed linking of monophasic Hyaluronic strands which completely and seamlessly fills the injected area.
But beyond a natural looking result, what else can Belotero clients’ expect? Longevity. The makers of Belotero claim that the effects may last up to 12 months.
Similar to other injectable fillers, Belotero injections will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Normal reactions may include redness, swelling and slight bruising. These should disappear within a week. Belotero is hypoallergenic filler, and does not require a skin test prior to injection. Patients should expect to see results within a week of the injections.
