UltraMD Pre & Post Care Instructions

PRE LASER TREATMENT

1. Reapply sunscreen regularly. Sunburned skin cannot be treated!
2. AVOID SUN EXPOSURE TWO WEEKS PRIOR to your appointment. This includes tanning beds. 
3. Avoid any irritants to the area(s) being treated, such as products containing Hydroquinone, bleaching creams, Retin-A, Retinol, Benzoyl Peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents or chemical peels for at least two weeks prior.
4. Do not use self-tanning agents for at least two weeks before treatment.
5. A clean face is required before your treatment. If you arrive with make-up on, you may cleanse your face here.
6. Please inform us before each treatment if you are taking any antibiotics or other medications, as they may make your skin photosensitive and we may not be able to treat.

POST LASER TREATMENT

1.  Immediately afterward your skin will be red & have a warm sunburn sensation that can last several hours. 
2. You’ll be given an anti-inflammatory facial mist & Laser Enzyme Gel that you should reapply throughout the remainder of the day as well as a sheet mask to take home & apply to cool and hydrate the skin. Continue to hydrate the next day with a gentle moisturizer, no active ingredients.
3. It’s important to keep your skin clean, especially for the first 24 hours. You may use a gentle cleanser with tepid water if needed.  
4. You must avoid make-up & active skincare ingredients for 48 hours post treatment.
5. After 24-48 hours, it’s important to keep skin hydrated with a moisturizer that contains NO active ingredients. It is highly recommended to use a sunscreen with SPF 45 or higher containing UVA/UVB protection & a sun blocker such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide & a hat.
6. Your skin will be dryer than normal & may have a rough/sandpaper texture. This will gradually resolve over 7-10 days. Using a soft cloth to cleanse the skin after 48 hrs will provide some relief.
7. You may apply makeup after 48 hrs.
8. You may experience light to significant redness and bronzing in the treatment area for approximately 2-3 days after treatment. Redness may last up to 7 days depending on your skin type and severity of treatment.
